This week’s episode we talked dieting and weight loss surgery. Eeeek! We were sent an email a listener with a request to discuss these topics. As a body positive podcast for plus size women, we hadn’t really planned to discuss dieting much at all. Now I don’t know about you, but I feel like it’s been there, done that for most diets. I’ve been making progress on changing the way I relate to food. One meal at a time!
Dieting is something Samara and I have had lots of experience with. When it comes to weight loss surgery, our experience is only second, third or fourth hand. We discuss our experiences with dieting, our relationship with food, our parents impact on that and close with a discussion about weight loss surgery and our concerns in regards to dieting and its many forms.
Full disclaimer, we are not medical professionals. Obviously. But we go ahead and give a lot of OUR opinions on this topic. It’s not going to sit well with some people. We also don’t want to be seen to be promoting the ongoing shaming of women doing whatever they see fit to do with their bodies. So listen, enjoy the cringe factor in my voice and take us with a grain of salt. We hope to hear from you on the topic on twitter or via email.
We were contacted after the release of this episode by Melissa of Melissa Loses It. She emailed to share her concern that we had made a few statements that were not helpful in terms of how people view weight loss surgery. She did so in such a way that we emailed back and forth a few times and found ourselves on common ground. For those who are interested in balancing our point of view, which we admit is pretty biased towards no thank you, pop over to Melissa’s blog and read more.
